Depression and loneliness are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives. Through counseling and treatment, we are able to support you in your journey to accessing the motivation, perspective, and joy that is already within you.
Grief and loss do not have an expiration date, and do not need to be experienced alone and in silence, which is why anytime is a great time to talk with a professional to help you through the grieving process.
Many individuals can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances, such as: Troubled sleep, stress, and intrusive memories. We can help you overcome these symptoms and guide you through the healing process.
I also offer virtual EMDR therapy, which is used to help individuals work through their hardest experiences so they can live rewarding lives. EMDR stands for eye movement desensitization and reprocessing and is a form of therapy that helps people deal with trauma, or other distressing life experiences. Experiencing trauma can block the brain's natural way to recover from distressing events. EMDR therapy is designed to re-activate this natural healing process through alternating eye movements, sounds, or taps.

I'd like to start with the basic definition of therapy, which is: The treatment of disease, or disorders through some corrective, rehabilitating, or curative process. Essentially talk therapy is a process whereby individuals learn things, such as: Previously unnoticed patterns of relating to the world around them, more about themselves, ways to sharpen their critical thinking, and new skills to effectively cope with life's challenges and improve their overall mood.

To quote Clint Eastwood, "What you put into life is what you get out of it." The same holds true for therapy. Therapy works by showing up and being present in sessions as consistently as possible. You will meet with your therapist in a private virtual setting for structured 50 minute sessions once a week, or more, or less frequently depending on your needs and your clinician's recommendations. Sessions tend to start with a brief mindfulness exercise to help prepare the mind for session; about 5-10 min., next a check-in to discuss how the week went; about 10-15 minutes, we then review any assignments, or plans from the previous session, practice any new skills, and then about 5 minutes before session your therapist will summarize what was discussed in session, and confirm your next appointment. What you say matters to your therapist, so throughout session your therapist will briefly take notes in order to help keep track of your progress and ensure quality care. These notes are password protected and safely stored in Therapy Notes, which is a HIPPA compliant software, in order to ensure your privacy.
In the first meeting typically the therapist will introduce themselves by mentioning things, such as: Their name, specialization, years of practice, educational background, and treatment approaches. They will want to review the intake form, which contains some basic information from you (e.g. Name, age, address, etc.) and some detailed information from you (e.g. Specific medications being taken, family history, etc.) which helps your therapist get to know you better, and they will ask questions in order to have a clear understanding of what brings you to therapy. Your therapist will provide you with electronic paperwork in advance that consists of: Intake forms, consent forms, GAD7 survey; measures anxious symptoms, and PHQ9 survey; measures depressive symptoms. All questions contained in the intake form serve a purpose in helping your therapist help you better, so it is highly encouraged to answer each as fully as possible. It can help save time and get you closer to starting treatment if you are able to complete these forms prior to session, but no worries if you do not get to it before the first meeting as you and your therapist can work on them together in session as well.
